(Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)ExpandDETROIT — Albert Pujols, who reached 2,000 RBIs, was the headliner on a day that the Angels had plenty of strong performance on their way to a 13-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.Tommy La Stella hit a pair of homers, his third multi-homer game of the season, to give him a team-leading nine. He stayed one homer ahead of Kole Calhoun, who blasted his eighth.Shohei Ohtani also picked up his first two hits, after going 0 for 7 in his first two games since coming off the injured list.It all provided plenty of support for the Angels pitching staff, which was led by seven dominant innings from Félix Peña, who gave up three hits and struck out seven with no walks. After Bard’s first inning, Peña took over and began mowing down the Tigers hitters.Peña retired the first nine hitters before allowing a double, and then he retired the next eight.Previously this season, Peña had been in a pattern of pitching well for about 50 pitches, and then seeing his effectiveness drop quickly. This time, Peña blew right past that threshold, striking out the side in the inning in which he passed 50. He finished with 86 pitches.Pujols, 39, is just the third player to have 2,000th RBI since the statistic became official, in 1920, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He joins all-time leader Hank Aaron (2,297) and Alex Rodriguez (2,086).
