First place awards can be anywhere from $5 to $10. And the livestock category also offers premium money.”The prize money is rewarding, but it’s winning a blue ribbon at the Pike County Fair that brings out the competitive spirit.“Arts and crafts, photography, needlework, woodwork, canned and baked goods are some of the most popular categories of competition,” Freeman said. “Photographs must be matted and no larger than 8 x 10. Canned goods must be contained in glass canning jars, pints or quarts, and are judged on appearance, texture, uniformity and packing. The Pike County Fairgrounds will be open from 1 until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2 and 3, for items to be registered.
